FAQs
You will find me from 10:45am in the foyer of the State Library of Victoria. I will be wearing a yellow and white skirt and will be holding a polka dot umbrella with a toilet roll attached. We leave the library at about 11:05am.
Please come prepared: the weather may be a little cool with possible showers, so best to pack a rain coat or umbrella as well as wearing shoes that you can walk in. I am also thinking about packing my gloves. A water bottle may be useful, and you may like to take some photographs.
The tour title says public toilets. Is there a specific focus for this tour?
Yes, this tour concentrates on the history of women’s street toilets in the early twentieth century, although we also have a chance to see one of the old urinals at Russell Street, and you can see the men’s toilets at both Collins and Elizabeth Streets. I make references to some of the other kinds of public toilets that were available, but we don’t visit any other these on the tour owing to time issues (it would take too long). Please note that members of the opposite sex will not be able to enter each other’s loos.
I have a friend or family member who hasn’t booked. Can they pay on the day?
Yes, I will have some change on me just in case anyone decides to turn up as a spur of the moment thing.
Can I use any of the loos on the tour?
Yes! There are loo stops at the State Library, Collins Street and Elizabeth Street.
See you all there!
